FAQs

Real questions from real people, answered with care.

Who are your classes for?

We offer classes for every phase of the perinatal journey—from the first trimester through early postpartum and beyond. Whether you're:

  • Pregnant and looking for safe, strength-based movement

  • Postpartum and ready to reconnect with your core and body

  • Not pregnant or postpartum but craving functional, body positive, inclusive, mindful fitness
    —you are welcome here.

Each class is clearly labeled on our schedule:

  • Prenatal / Postpartum = Designed specifically for that stage, with targeted programming and expert support.

  • Amplify = Not pregnancy/postpartum-specific. These are higher-intensity options that welcome all bodies. If you’re pregnant or postpartum, you’re still welcome—our trainers will offer supportive modifications. That said, we encourage you to explore our dedicated pre/postnatal classes first for programming tailored to your specific needs.

  • Amplify Circuits = Small group training that's adaptable and body-aware—great for all fitness levels and life stages.

Do I need to be pregnant or postpartum to come to class?

Not at all! While our focus is on pre/postnatal movement, we welcome everyone! Just know that in pregnancy/postpartum-specific classes, there will be mention of the pregnancy experience, babies, birth, healing, and parenthood throughout—so we ask that you feel comfortable in that environment.

Do I need medical clearance before attending class?

Yes—we want you to feel safe, supported, and cleared to move.

  • If you're pregnant, we ask that you’ve received general clearance from your provider to participate in physical activity.

  • If you're postpartum, we require that you’ve been cleared for exercise—usually around 6 weeks postpartum for vaginal births, or 8+ weeks after a cesarean in order to take group classes.

  • If you’re navigating a high-risk pregnancy or specific medical complications, we ask that you receive explicit clearance from your provider to exercise. Please also communicate any movement restrictions or needs directly with your trainer before class.

You won’t need to submit documentation, but by signing our waiver and participating in class, you're agreeing that:

  • You’ve received appropriate medical clearance

  • You understand the potential risks of movement during this phase

  • You agree to hold Freya Movement Studio and its trainers harmless

Not cleared yet but ready to move?

We offer rehabilitative private training for newly postpartum clients who haven’t yet been cleared for full exercise. These sessions are designed to support gentle reconnection and healing—reach out, and we’ll match you with a trainer who can guide you safely.

How soon can I come back after giving birth?

Most folks return to class around 6 weeks after a vaginal delivery or 8+ weeks after a C-section, once cleared by their provider.

Not quite ready to dive into movement? We offer breathwork, mobility, and gentle recovery-focused private training options, too.

Can I bring my baby to class?

Yes—you can always bring your baby to class! It’s welcome and encouraged.

We’ve created a space where you don’t have to choose between self care and being with your little one. Most of our classes are designed with this flexibility in mind—just bring whatever helps you and your baby feel comfortable (a carrier, blanket, etc.).

It’s a safe space where everyone gets it—feeding, fussing, diaper changes, and pauses for snuggles are all completely normal here.

Have questions? Reach out—we’re here to help make movement possible, even in the newborn haze.

What should I bring or wear?

Wear anything you feel good moving in.

We provide:

  • Mats + props in-studio

  • Water available onsite

  • Virtual class set up: You’ll mostly need a mat, light/medium/heavy weights, circular boody bands, long therabands, and household items like pillows or yoga blocks

I have symptoms like diastasis recti, prolapse, or pelvic discomfort—can I still attend?

Yes! Our classes are designed with diastasis and pelvic health in mind. If you're managing a specific concern, let your instructor know at the start of class. We’ll offer modifications and movement choices to help support your body safely.

That said, it’s important to tune into your body. If you’re experiencing pain (beyond general discomfort), we encourage you to exercise judgment and pause as needed. We’re also happy to make recommendations for trusted pelvic floor physical therapists, chiropractors, massage therapists, or acupuncturists who can offer additional care and relief.

What if I’m brand new to fitness?

You’re in the right place. Our trainers are certified in prenatal/postpartum fitness and trained to support all experience levels.

How do I book a class?

Head to our booking link to view our schedule, and reserve your spot.

Where are you located? Do you offer virtual classes?

Our studio is located in Chelsea, NYC at 134 W 29th Street, Suite 607
We also offer select classes live online—check our schedule to see what’s currently available virtually.

Is there a bathroom or changing room?

Yes—we have access to a clean, private bathroom just down the hall from the studio space. While we don’t have a dedicated changing room, many clients change in the bathroom or arrive dressed and ready to go.

What results can I expect?

At Freya, our goal isn’t to “bounce back” or “lose weight”—it’s to move forward with strength, connection, and confidence.

We focus on what your body can do. Our classes are rooted in functional fitness, helping you build:

  • Strength and stamina for labor and delivery, parenthood and everyday life

  • Core and pelvic floor awareness and resilience

  • Smart movement patterns that support healing, not strain it

During pregnancy, movement can help:

  • Reduce back, hip, and joint pain

  • Boost circulation and energy

  • Support better sleep

  • Prepare your body for labor with strength and endurance

  • Support fetal health through improved oxygenation and blood flow

In postpartum, intentional and progressive movement is key. Jumping back into high-intensity workouts too soon can lead to injury, burnout, or core dysfunction. Our classes are designed to meet you where you are—helping you heal safely and build a stronger foundation for whatever comes next.

Freya clients often report:

  • Less pain and more mobility

  • Improved core and  pelvic floor awareness

  • Increased strength, stamina and balance

  • Renewed energy and emotional clarity

  • A deeper connection to their evolving body

And maybe most importantly:
Feeling seen, supported, and truly part of a community.

Do I need to sign up in advance? Can I drop in?

We recommend booking ahead to reserve your spot—our classes are intentionally small so we can offer enough support, guidance, and attention to everyone in the room. Walk-ins are welcome when space allows, but pre-registering ensures we’re ready for you (and that you’ve got a mat waiting!).

What happens if I need to cancel or miss class?

We do have a cancellation policy (full details coming your way soon), but we also understand that pregnancy and postpartum come with curveballs. If an emergency comes up—especially something pregnancy-related—pleaselet us know when you can. We’ll do our best to accommodate late reschedules in those situations.

Can I take class if I’m trying to conceive / going through IVF?

Yes, absolutely. Our classes—especially our Amplify classes—can be a great fit while TTC or undergoing fertility treatment. If you feel comfortable sharing what you’re navigating with your trainer, they can offer thoughtful considerations to match your energy, cycle, or treatment phase. That said, even if you don’t want to share specifics, our overall approach is designed to honor your “today body,” supportive, and very friendly to folks in the TTC in all ways.

What’s the vibe like in class?

Supportive, inclusive, and grounded in community. At Freya, we believe movement should meet you where you are—whether you’re feeling energized or need to take it slow. Our instructors offer plenty of options so you can give more or less depending on the day. Classes are small, warm, and connection-focused, so you’re never just a face in the room. We’re here to move together, support each other, and remind you that you’re not in this alone.

Do your instructors have specific prenatal/postpartum certifications?

Many of our instructors hold specialized prenatal and postpartum certifications, and all of them have been personally trained and guided by our studio’s founder—a seasoned birth doula and pre/postnatal movement specialist. We take this seriously when hiring: every member of our team is chosen with care for their knowledge, empathy, and ability to support pregnant and postpartum bodies safely and effectively.

Do you offer private sessions if I’m not ready for group classes?

Yes, absolutely! Private sessions are a great way to get personalized support—whether you're pregnant, postpartum, navigating recovery, or just looking to get strong and feel great. We offer private training in a few formats: strength and cardio, Reformer Pilates, or a blend of both. We’ll pair you with a trainer who best fits your needs, goals, and preferences, so you feel safe, seen, and supported from day one.

Do you have any support resources outside of fitness?

Yes! We believe in whole-person care, and movement is just one piece of the puzzle. Through our doula network and trusted community partners, we can connect you with pelvic floor therapists, mental health providers, lactation consultants, sleep specialists, fertility specialists, hormone specialists, and more—just ask.

We also host regular community events where we bring in experts to share knowledge, answer questions, and help you feel more supported and informed at every stage of your journey.

Do you offer sliding scale pricing or scholarships?

We believe everyone deserves access to support during pregnancy and postpartum. While we don't currently offer a formal sliding scale, we’re always happy to talk through ways to make our services more accessible. Reach out—we may be able to suggest class packs, seasonal promos, or alternative options that work for you.

Can I freeze or pause my membership?

Yes. We understand that life can be unpredictable—babies arrive on their own timelines, recovery ebbs and flows, and schedules shift. If you need to pause your membership, just reach out before your next billing cycle. We’re happy to accommodate when the request is reasonable and will always do our best to meet you with care.

Can I transfer or share my class pack?

Class packs are non-transferable, but you’re welcome to gift a class to someone through our digital gift cards. If you’d like to bring a friend, we do have a referral program. Check that out here.

What should I do if I’m running late to class?

Life happens. Just come in quietly, settle in, and check in with your instructor when you’re ready. Begin moving at a pace that allows you to warm up safely at your own pace and prevent injury. We’re glad you made it, and we’ll do our best to help you ease in.

How can I get in touch before class?

The best way to reach us is by emailing info@freyamovement.com. We do our best to respond within 24-48 hours.

Is your studio stroller-friendly and accessible?

Yes! Our building has an elevator and our studio is stroller-accessible.

Do you use fragrances in the studio?

We keep our space low-fragrance and limit use of essential oils or scented sprays so it’s safe for those who are pregnant, sensitive to smells, or recovering postpartum.

What if I get emotional during class?

You’re in good company. This season of life is intense—physically and emotionally. Whether you cry during core work or feel overwhelmed mid-stretch, know that it's welcome here. This is a safe space to show up exactly as you are, no judgment, no apologies.

Will I be the only one like me in class?

Freya is built on the belief that everyone deserves to feel safe, seen, and supported. There’s no one “right” way to move through pregnancy, postpartum, or parenthood—and we honor all of it. You’ll find solo parents, IVF journeys, same-sex couples, first-timers, and seasoned parents alike. However you got here, you belong here.

Do you offer workshops or birth/postpartum education?

Yes! We host regular events featuring pelvic floor therapists, mental health professionals, doulas, and more. From birth prep to babywearing basics, we’re here to support you beyond movement. Check our events page, join our mailing list, and follow us on Instagram for the latest updates.

I’m interested in private sessions or doula support. Where should I start?

Amazing! Visit our services page to explore private training, birth & postpartum doula services, or nutrition and health coaching. You can book directly or reach out for private training availability or for a free Doula discovery call—we’d love to learn more about how we can support you.

Can I try a class before committing?

We offer an intro special designed to help you experience our space, our community, and our unique approach to movement. For the price of one class, you’ll receive three—because we’ve found that showing up a few times is the best way to truly feel the Freya difference. You can find this offer under the Pricing Plans and On-Demand section of our website.

What’s included in a membership vs. class pack?

Memberships give you the best value and include access to multiple classes per week + some exclusive perks.

Class packs are more flexible—you can use them as you go and they don’t expire for several weeks.

You can compare all options right here.

Do unused classes roll over?

Our class packs come with generous expiration windows. While we don’t typically extend expiration dates, we understand that life happens. If you experience an emergency or a significant shift—especially anything pregnancy or birth-related—just reach out. You’ll never lose a class due to pregnancy-related medical needs or the arrival of your baby.

Do instructors offer hands-on corrections?

Sometimes—but only with your clear consent. Our instructors are trained to offer hands-on support when it’s helpful, and we do our best to always ask explicitly before doing so. If you'd prefer not to be touched, just let us know at any time—we fully respect your boundaries and are here to support you in the way that feels best for you.

What if I need to leave early (to feed, pump, etc.)?

It’s absolutely okay. We know how real-time needs can come up—especially during pregnancy and postpartum. If you know in advance that you’ll need to step out, just give your instructor a quick heads-up at the start of class and leave quietly when the time comes. Our prenatal and postpartum classes are built around flexibility, understanding, and zero judgment. We’re just glad you made it when you could.

Can I come if I’ve experienced pregnancy loss?

Yes. We hold space for every path. If you’re returning after loss and want to join class—or just want to move your body with care—we’re here for that. You’re always welcome to let us know what you need or request a more private experience.

Can my partner or support person attend class with me?

Yes—for certain workshops and private sessions, absolutely. For Prenatal and Postpartum group classes, the focus is generally on the pregnant or postpartum individual, but if you’re preparing for labor together or want to share the experience—we’d love for them to join us! Anyone and everyone is welcome here if they want to be part of the journey.

Is this a safe space for LGBTQIA+ clients?

Absolutely. We welcome all genders, family structures, and identities. If you have a specific support need, just let us know—we’re here to honor and affirm your experience and we will do our best to make certain accommodations when we are able to.

Do you offer birth prep workshops or education?

Yes! We regularly host events and workshops led by doulas, pelvic floor therapists, mental health pros, and more. You can check out what’s coming up on our events page, or sign up for our newsletter to stay in the loop.

Do you sell merch or studio products?

Yes! We have a growing line of Freya merch—think grip socks, totes, and water bottles to keep you hydrated and repping the Freya vibe. We also partner with After9 to offer their amazing prenatal and postpartum workout attire, available right here in the studio. Come take a look next time you’re in!

Can I rent or borrow equipment for virtual classes?

We don’t currently rent equipment, but we keep things simple! Most of our online classes use light weights, a mat, therabands (round and long) and household props (like pillows or yoga blocks). We’ll send you what you need after you sign up.

Do you host social events or meetups?

Yes—we’re big on community beyond the workout. From happy hours to pelvic floor parties to postpartum coffee circles, we love bringing folks together. Check our events page, Instagram, and join our mailing list for the latest.

Can I rent the studio for a private event?

Sure! Whether it’s a baby shower, private group class, content shoot, or wellness gathering—we’d love to host you. Reach out to us directly with your idea and we’ll let you know what’s possible.
